The following are questions that have been asked during the first part of the season and what the correct ruling/interpretation is.

Question:

What is the ruling if an offensive wrestler intentionally lets the defensive wrestler off his back in a pinning situation.  Is it still considered unsportsmanlike conduct for taunting or did that rule change?

Answer:

Unless the offensive wrestler is making a mockery of wrestling, or outwardly taunting the defensive wrestler, there is no penalty.  When the 15 point technical fall was added to wrestling years ago, the penalty for letting the defensive wrestler off his back went away because he can only do it for so long before the match ends.  It would be a rare situation where you would penalize the offensive wrestler

Question:

The new overtime rule is designed to allow equal opportunity to both wrestlers.  Rule 6-7-1 c-1 page 34 says two 30-seconds tie-breakers will be wrestled to completion.  What if the unbelievable happens and one wrestler scores 15 points in the first 30-second tie-breaker?  Rule 5-11-4b page 23 says once the technical fall has been earned, the offensive wrestler cannot lose the match except by flagrant misconduct.  Which rule would take precedence in this situation?  Wrestle both 30-second tie-breakers, or end the match when there is  15 point difference?

Answer:

A fall or technical fall terminates wrestling as it does during the regulation match.  Since the overtime is a part of the regulation match, a 15 point differential would end the match.  The rules committee will go back and make a few editorial changes to further clarify this next April.

Question:

When wrestler A defers his choice to start the first 30-second tie breaker, does he/she get the choice in the second 30-second tie breaker?

Answer:

The wrestler who wins the disk toss can choose top or bottom in the first 30-second tie breaker, or can choose to make those choices in the second 30-second tie breaker by deferring the choice  When both 30-second tie breakers are wrestled, each wrestler will get their choice of top or bottom unless there is a second injury time out.
